Sea levels are rising due to climate change, but it is unlikely that they will rise high enough to cover all land. Current projections by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) estimate a sea level rise of 0.3 to 1 meter by 2100, depending on greenhouse gas emissions.
Even in extreme scenarios, it would take thousands of years for sea levels to rise enough to submerge most land, as it would require the complete melting of all polar ice caps and glaciers. This could raise sea levels by about 70 meters (230 feet), but such a scenario depends on long-term climate trends and human action to mitigate climate change.
