There is still lots to be learned about cancer and every cancer can begin because of different causes- it could be something genetic, that runs in the family or skin cancer could develop when someone gets sunburnt on holidays many times.
As we age, cancer risks increases, but certainly keeping fit and healthy helps. Sometimes cancer has to do with genetics and so it’s good to be aware of our family history. Being exposed to the sun too much and not being careful means even healthy people can get skin cancer. There is still a lot of cancer research to do, but our knowledge is improving all the time and treatments are getting better.
Cancer can develop in healthy people due to random genetic mutations, inherited genes, age-related DNA damage, environmental exposures (e.g., UV rays, pollution), viral infections (e.g., HPV), or hormonal changes. These factors can cause abnormal cell growth despite a healthy lifestyle.
There are many factors that contribute to cancer: sometimes they can cause cancer on their own (e.g., you may be in contact with a carcinogen, like some chemicals), or there may be no major factor, but several ones may occur in a manner that tips cells to go out of control (maybe poor health accompanied by environmental factors). In fact, most of our cells go out of control every now and then, but our bodies have several ways to correct the issue. This correcting happens all the time. If this correction does no longer occur effectively, one may get cancer. The important bit is: early detection and intervention. If you think there is something not right: get it checked.
